The company I work for just helped launch a not-for-profit blogsite that strives to engage people on issues related to health care in the U.S. The site, http://healthcommentary.org, provides multiple channels of video content (as well as text) and collects video commentary and text from visitors. I’m interested in your opinion of how well this site utilizes social media technology and where it falls short or might improve.

Thanks,
Carol

It was a very thoughtful post! Completely agree with both of your follow up points here. It seems like a no brainer that nonprofits would be more open to ceding some control (more than .coms anyway) but that is often not the case.

Love your writing and thoughts -- please keep posting!

Thanks for calling me thoughtful, and I'll return the favor.

A great point is the one about expecting the masses to "do your bidding" using Web 2.0 tools.

Perhaps the biggest thing a nonprofit needs to do is prepare itself for the unexpected and be willing to ride out the community they are trying to build going "off message."

If an organization isn't committed to being in a conversation with its constituents then it isn't ready to use many Web 2.0 tools.
